Dale Stogden, also known as Brett, was gunned down behind a pizza takeaway on Doncaster Road, Wakefield, at 9.43pm on Tuesday, August 12. The 50-year-old father was shot near a BP petrol station in what police describe as a drive-by shooting.
The victim was rushed to hospital but died from his injuries. Police believe the attack was carried out using a stolen Toyota RAV4 with false number plates.
Family's emotional plea
Stogden's heartbroken daughters have paid tribute to their beloved father whilst pleading with his killer to surrender. They said they have been left in "complete shock" by the unexpected loss of their father "in such horrific, violent circumstances".
"We will miss him, and our breakfast get togethers. We will miss his big smile," the family said. "Dad, we hope you are no longer in pain and that you can rest in peace. We will always love and miss you."
The daughters directly appealed to the perpetrator: "We would like to ask the person who took our dad's life so cruelly, please hand yourself in then we can have some closure and lay him to rest."
Three arrests made
West Yorkshire Police have arrested three men on suspicion of murder. The suspects, aged 19, 20, and 27, are from addresses in the Ossett and Lupset areas of Wakefield and remain in police custody.
The Toyota RAV4 believed to have been used in the shooting was recovered on Wednesday evening. Police found the vehicle abandoned on Dunbar Street, Wakefield, and it is now being analysed for evidence.
Distinctive vehicle details
The car was distinctive due to having bull lights fitted on the roof above the windshield. Police believe the vehicle had been stolen during a burglary in Castleford on August 3 and was fitted with false number plates.
The driver was travelling towards Wakefield before turning around near the BP petrol station immediately before the shooting. They then drove off in the same direction they had come from.
Investigation continues
Detective Chief Inspector James Entwistle of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team is leading the investigation. "We are determined to get answers for Brett's family and ensure that those involved in this senseless crime are brought to justice," he said.
Police are following multiple lines of enquiry and have received a strong response to public appeals for information. They are seeking dashcam footage from motorists who were in the Doncaster Road area between 9.30pm and 9.45pm on August 3.
